Weyward ~ Emilia Hart

It started as a DNF but I went back to it.  All about right time, and what you have just finished reading. In this regard it was a just-right light snack

3 story lines, 3 historical periods.

It was an enjoyable read.  The theme was a mix of female empowerment and supernatural witchy powers. Both themes were lightweight (it was heavier on the brutality of men)

Fever Beach ~ Carl Hiaasen

It wasn't as satirically funny as Squeeze Me.  This one was a parody centred around Proud Boys wannabes. It was overlong with too many subplots and jokes worn thin.

Broken Country ~ Clare Leslie Hall

**

Eminently forgettable lightweight read

Village romance, crime coverup, cardboard characters bleh

Orbital ~ Samantha Harvey

 ****

2024 BOOKER PRIZE WINNER

A novella really, but it took so long to read!  It is like reading non-fiction, where every idea, every sentence, every character is nuanced and needs consideration.

An unusual, surprising and interesting read.

Goodreads : "A book of wonder, Orbital is nature writing from space and an unexpected and profound love letter to life on Earth"

Down Cemetery Road ~ Mick Herron

OK

This was the first in the series.  Man! it would have to get better!!

So freakin cliched, So boring, So not Slow Horses!!!

This review on Goodreads says it well :

I guess when you chose to read a schlocky novel that has something to do with cartoonish assassins, British military spies, hard-bitten lady detectives, and a dim-witted heroine, you deserve what you get

Slow Horses (Slough House #1) ~ Mick Herron

DNF ... but only because I had only recently seen the series ... plan to jump ahead to the unknown.

From the 25% that I did read : great writing and great transfer to the screen

Birdman ~ Mo Hayder

Watched TV series based on one of her books.  Good read

The White Rock ~ Anna Hope

*** LIKE

Set in San Blas, Mexico

Well researched and that research is woven into interesting storylines

The Twyford Code ~ Janice Hallett

 ** Barely OK

WW2 codes hidden in Enid Blyton; a gold and jewel heist; all told through phone conversation transcripts.

Trite Tripe

Anthem ~ Noah Hawley

 DID NOT FINISH

What a load of verbosity leading nowhere

Garbage that luckily I was able to return for a refund.

Dune Messiah ~ Frank Herbert

So little happens other than major Paul angst.

All is clouded in mumbo jumbo deep-and-meaningfuls.
