Kindred ~ Olivia E Butler

** OK **

Unoriginal, uninspired

Let's take The Time Traveller's Wife and ummm change it to make it black history instead ... yes! That will work ... not!!!  While the idea was good it needed more effort to lift it from being a "What I did in my holiday" school assignment essay.

The Killer Inside Me ~ Jim Thompson

** RECOMMEND **

Dark dark dark
Did I say this was DARK

Just as the blurb says “... most chilling and believable first person story of a criminally warped mind ...”

Whoa ... talk about dark ... too dark for “noir”.

SO glad that I read it before seeing the movie. The movie was a faithful to the book but I would have turned it off because of the horrible nature of it. The book had pre-conditioned me.

Set in a small town and told through the voice of the deputy sheriff. There is mindless violence and killing ... though, as we are seeing it through his eyes, it is not mindless to him.

A savage look at a psychopath.

Kill The Dead ~ Richard Kadrey

** RECOMMEND **

A “Sandman Slim” novel ... the return of Stark, the anti-hero.
Hardboiled Science Fiction / Supernatural Fiction.

Well written main character in a realistic set up (ok! so it is supernatural! ... Kadrey presents an well constructed other-world).

Lots of schlock-horror. It follows on well from the previous Sandman Slim without a lot of superfluous retell. Locating the story in Las Angeles was so apt - the underbelly of the city is almost a character of the book.

Reminded me of the early “Joe Pitt” novels ... but LA rather than NY.
